China Work Permit Renewal Process - Important notice

Affected parties:

  • Non-Chinese passport holders who are working in China with China Work Permits
  • HR department of employing companies based in China

All foreign employees who are working in China with valid work permits are required to submit their Work Permit renewal on-line application at least 30 calendar days prior to the expiration of their existing Work Permits.

The State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs (Foreign Experts Bureau) has officially announced that effective from February 28th, 2018, all foreign employees who are working in China holding Work Permits must submit their renewal on-line application at least 30 days 30 calendar days prior to the expiration of their work permits.

What are the Changes and Immediate Actions?

Those who fail to comply with this new regulation will be denied of renewal and shall start a new application for work permit. This means that new applications will be required authenticate applicant's University Diploma and Police Clearance among other necessary documents based on the policies implemented effective April 1st, 2017. Without a valid Work Permit and Residence Permit, a foreigner is not legally permitted to work in China. Please double check the assignee’s Work Permit expiry date and ensure the extension application is submitted at least 30 calendar days prior to expiry. Work Permit extensions can generally be submitted no more than 90 days prior to the expiry day, but this may vary locally.

Please limit your international travels during the extension period so the extension may be completed smoothly.
